As noted before, I love a good designer/retailer collaboration. The Jason Wu for Target collection was a huge success (though sadly I did not obtain a single piece) but the latest one for H&M might just be my favorite to date. And from the images above, it's no wonder why. I have been a HUGE fan of Marni for many years now. I was lucky enough to attend a tour of their London store in 2005 led by the merchandising director (*very attractive Italian man, not a bad tour guide) who is very close to Conseulo Castiglioni and went into detail about the history of the company, the current collections and the ins and outs of all things Marni. I remember walking through that store in absolute awe and feeling as though I had found my designer soul mate.
The prints, colors and silhouettes are always instantly recognizable, you know when you're looking at a Marni piece. And for this collaboration, Castiglioni did a remarkable job of staying true to the Marni aesthetic while also creating a unique, beautiful collection that is sure to sell out in record time. Another fabulous component to this pairing is a lovely commercial directed by Sophia Coppola. And her choice of location couldn't have been more perfect. Set in Marrakesh, the video shows pieces from the collection in perfect harmony with the beautiful scenery and colors of Morocco...
Kind of makes you want to pack your bags and take flight doesn't it?? While I may not be heading back to Morocco anytime soon (more on that later), I can still try to relive some of the memories in a tribal print dress or a gold brocade ensemble. For now, that will just have to do.
