Of all the electives I drudgingly sat through in my college years, art history was one of my favorites, and never a bore. Even today, I love seeing images that are inspired by some of the great works of artists past, especially when they collide with the work of artists present.
Christian Dior's latest Fall/Winter campaign draws inspiration from Manet's Le dejeuner sur l'Herbe (luncheon on the grass) and I think the 2013 version is pretty stunning as well. During its time, Manet's painting caused quite the scandal, but today it is viewed as one of the greatest works of his career. Although the absence of clothing was replaced with Dior's lovely fall collection, the beauty behind it still stands strong.
