MEET ME AT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH

I first discovered Nick Cave in 2010 when he was featured in Vogue's September issue.  I was in New York at the time, and I remember sitting at a coffee shop with my friend Celia, pouring over the entire issue from cover to cover.  When I reached the spread featuring these fantastical Soundsuits, I could not believe my eyes.  At first glance I wasn't sure if this was staged for Vogue or an amazing creation in their own right.  The suits were juxtaposed with fur-embellished accessories, which was perfect next to these six foot (maybe higher) furry creations that jumped and moved across the page.

So imagine my excitement when I saw that this incredibly talented artist and performer would be featuring his Soundsuits at the the Cincinnati Art Museum this spring.  To see these figures draped in everything from beads and sequins to hair dyed in rainbow colors, is truly spectacular.  This exhibition, the largest of Cave's work to date, features dozens of Soundsuits and a video installation of Cave himself inside one of his lavish creations.  If you have the chance to see this exhibition or any in the future, this is not to be missed.  Fantasy combined with vivid imagination is always a welcomed escape.
