TWENTY-NINE

On Thursday I celebrated yet another birthday, but also the start of another year.  It may seem untimely to have your birthday right when all of the holiday festivities are coming to an end and most people just want to go inside and hibernate for the next three months.  But growing up it never seemed that way, and even now it seems more about celebrating a new year, a new start, and yes, a new age.  I was lucky enough to have not one, not two, but THREE birthday outings over the past weekend and they were each lovely.

I went to see "My Week with Marilyn" on my actual birthday and I have to say it was a phenomenal film.  The entire cast did a stellar job and I can't say enough about Michelle Williams' performance as Marilyn Monroe, she is sure to nominated for this one.  Friday evening was spent at Boca restaurant, my absolute favorite, (though I might be a bit biased) enjoying seared day boat scallops and lumache all'amatriciana.  All simply divine. Saturday was yet another fantastic Italian meal at Nicola's where I enjoyed tagliatelle, a lot of white wine and wonderful company.  And the chocolate mousse wasn't a bad touch either...

There is a difference between twenty-nine and thirty.  When you are twenty-nine it can be the beginning of everything.  When you are thirty it can be the end of everything.

~ Gertrude Stein, Mrs. Reynolds (1940-43)
